TOUR GROUP SIZE: Maximum of eight (8) participants.
TOUR DESCRIPTION: This special 3.5-hour tour is sure to be like no other Vagabond Vistas photo tour! The NC Mountain State Fair celebrates the people, agriculture, art and tradition that make the WNC region what it is. This once-per-year special event will provide the necessary insight to capture this special culture with your digital camera. As a twilight event, David will focus on how to best capture low-light situations, whether the subject is static or moving. A tripod is a must to get the most out of this tour.
The general theme of this Photo Tour is “festival life”, with specialty work maximizing creativity with the camera’s shutter speed (e.g., freezing and blurring motion).
Throughout the evening, David will guide the group to the optimum locations for creating postcard views of the fair. Not just a “tour guide”, David divides his time between brief group instruction chats, and working one-on-one with his clients.
Like all Vagabond Vistas photography workshops and photo tours, we employ our “holistic” approach to teaching and learning photography.
Fundamentals of composition (“Elements of Design”)
Setting focal point and depth-of-field

Designed as a “hands-on” workshop, this Photo Tour is a perfect match for any photography enthusiast. Throughout the evening, David will guide the group to the optimum locations within the event grounds for creating postcard views of the fair.
TOUR ROUTE CONDITIONS: The fair grounds are relatively flat and easy to navigate.
SKILL LEVEL REQUIREMENTS: Suitable for all skill levels (beginner to pro) and all camera types (point-and-shoot to DSLR models), though concepts specific to DSLR cameras will certainly be covered.
GEAR SUGGESTIONS: Wide angle and telephoto lenses are recommended. A polarizing filter may also come in handy to remove glare and to increase color saturation. A tripod is not absolutely necessary for most of this tour, but one would be essential come twilight / night when photographing the rotating / moving thrill rides.
GROUP MEETING PLACE: We will meet at a predetermined location at the fairgrounds.
TRANSPORTATION: Not included in the tour.
MEALS: Not included in the tour. Food and drink will be available for purchase at the fair.
